Mr. David Gorham has returned to Owasso as the Interim Director of Band Operations for 2024-2025! Mr. Gorham previously led the band from 1989 to 2014. Under his direction, every performing ensemble earned the OSSAA State Sweepstakes Awards for excellence in Marching Band, Concert Band, and Sightreading. His leadership also brought the Owasso Bands two prestigious honors from the John Philip Sousa Foundation: the Sudler Flag of Honor (1997) and the Sudler Shield (2004), making Owasso one of only two programs in the state to have received both awards.
Mr. Gorham’s tenure saw the Owasso Wind Ensemble perform twice at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and the Pride of Owasso achieve finalist status at all four Bands of America Super Regionals, as well as being a two-time Grand National Finalist. His direction led the marching band to three appearances in the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade and earned the title of Overall Best Band at the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland.
Honored as the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Director of the Year (1997), Mr. Gorham also received the National Federation of High Schools Outstanding Music Educator Award (2006) and the OkMEA Exemplary Teacher Award (2010). He is a member of the American Bandmasters Association, a Bandworld Legion of Honor Laureate, and was inducted into the OkMEA Hall of Fame in 2024. As an accomplished composer with over one hundred titles in print and numerous commissions, Mr. Gorham has influenced countless students who have gone on to have successful careers in music.
