Maggie Matheny

Maggie Matheny began teaching in Owasso in 2020. Previously, Ms. Matheny was an assistant band director in Miami, Oklahoma from 2019-2020. At Owasso, she teaches sixth grade flute and double reed classes, seventh grade band, assists with the eighth grade band, and assists with the Pride of Owasso marching band. Her professional affiliations include the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and Pi Kappa Lambda. In the fall of 2017, Ms. Matheny was awarded the “Advocate of Note” by the Arkansas Music Educators Association.

Ms. Matheny graduated from Owasso High School in 2015 and the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in May of 2019. During her time at the University of Arkansas, Ms. Matheny studied flute with Dr. Ronda Mains and Professor Catalina Ortega. Ms. Matheny also studied secondary bassoon lessons with Dr. Lia Uribe and wind conducting with Professor W. Dale Warren.

At the University of Arkansas, Ms. Matheny performed with the Wind Ensemble, New Music Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, the Razorback Marching Band, and other chamber ensembles. Ms. Matheny enjoys spending her summers working at camps such as the University of Arkansas Summer Music Camp and the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute. In her free time, Ms. Matheny likes cooking, playing video games, and spending time with her cat and corgi.
