CHRIS HARRIS

Chris Harris has taught in Owasso since 2004. In June of 2014 he was named Director of Bands for Owasso Public Schools. He conducts the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band , Basketball Pep Band and teaches AP Music Theory. Mr. Harris also conducts the Owasso High School musical each Spring and coordinates the PRIDE of Owasso Marching Band. 

Mr. Harris previously instructed the Symphonic Band (2nd Band of 5), the 8th Grade Concert Band and the Steel Drum Band. In 2006, 2010 and 2014 the Symphonic Band was selected to perform as an Honor Band at the OKMEA Convention. The Wind Ensemble was an OKMEA Honor Band in 2017. His 8th Grade Concert Band received straight Superior ratings at OSSAA District Contest for 9 consecutive years. Harris’ bands have earned 29 OSSAA Sweepstakes Awards and 9 OSSAA Junior High Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Harris graduated from the University of Oklahoma with Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education in 1990 and 1992 respectively. He has also taught in the Moore, Union and Broken Arrow school systems.

Mr. Harris is a member of Phi Beta Mu, OkMEA, NAfME, OBA and is a Bands of America Adjudicator.

Outside activities include performing lead steel pan for Something Steel, an island based cover band from Tulsa, and performing with the Barrel Fish Community Steel Band, which he founded in December of 2018. Harris also enjoys playing coed soccer and officiating OSSAA soccer matches.

Mr. Harris has been married to his wife Marti since 1996. His daughter Claire is a 2019 Graduate of the Owasso Band Program and was a 4-year member of the PRIDE of Oklahoma Marching Band.
